How our diet is influenced by BLOOD TYPE

A proper and healthy diet is a much discussed topic nowadays. Changing lifestyles, busy life schedules and the partiality to junk food and fast food over home cooked meals, more often disrupt the entire Dosha balance in the body leading to diseases. Overeating, skipping meals, eating overcooked, stale or frozen food can adversely affect the body constitution.

Ayurveda diet is based not just on the nutritional values but also on the Prakruthi of the person. When the body ingests food based on its Prakruthi, the Doshas remain balanced leading to a healthy body and a peaceful mind.

Following a well-balanced Ayurveda diet can balance the various changes caused by age, physiology and environment. It can help you prevent the occurrence of diseases, increase your concentration power, improve your digestion and immune system and so on.

Influence of  blood type on our diet
Type O blood: A high-protein diet heavy on lean meat, poultry, fish, and vegetables, and light on grains, beans, and dairy.Various supplements  also  help with tummy troubles and other issues .
Type A blood: A meat-free diet based on fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes, and whole grains -- ideally, organic and fresh, because  type A blood have a sensitive immune system.
Type B blood: Avoid corn, wheat, buckwheat, lentils, tomatoes, peanuts, and sesame seeds.  Chicken is also problematic,  eating green vegetables, eggs, certain meats, and low-fat dairy is encouraged.
Type AB blood: Foods to focus on include tofu, seafood, dairy, and green vegetables. People with type AB blood tend to have low stomach acid. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoked or cured meats.

When BLACK GRAMS (Kala Chana or Garbanzo beans or chickpeas) acted a savior

It was during my late twenties , when suddenly a little white scar appeared on my chin. My habit of  taking daily a glass of orange juice resulted in spreading of white scars (vitiligo)  on  my face  .  It worried my parents and also  shattered my confidence . I visited a few doctors (skin specialists),  but of no avail. Then , one of my known  took me to Postgraduate Institute Medical Education and Research (popularly called PGI , renown medical institute at Chandigarh)  where his younger brother was a resident doctor and assured me of complete riddance from white scars on my face. After having breakfast at friend's  brother's  residence , I was taken to skin department ,  where I was diagnosed thoroughly and prescribed a very little dose of medicine for month. While returning from from PGI , an elderly person  was sitting beside me in the bus  asked me about my white scars on my face . He advised my about eating black grams and see its miraculous results. I took his advise very seriously and started eating  soaked and little fried black grams daily at breakfast. It would take me half an hour in finishing my breakfast . I started having miraculous change in my face and white scars disappeared in short span of six months and before my marriage. I kept eating black grams for two years and still I do but  not so  frequent. It added an extra ordinary strength in my body . Today , I owe change in my life to the timely help of friend and eating black grams . What a beautiful gift of the nature !!!!!

Nutritional Overview
A cup of boiled kala chana contains 269 calories. It has 4 grams of total fat, with less than 1/2 gram of cholesterol-raising saturated fat. Beans are good plant-based sources of protein, and 1 cup of kala chana contains 15 grams of protein, or 30 percent of the daily value based on a 2,000-calorie diet. Each cup of cooked kala chana provides 45 grams of total carbohydrates, including 8 grams of natural sugars. Garbanzo beans are cholesterol-free.

Each cup of kala chana provides 13 grams of dietary fiber. A high-fiber diet lowers your cholesterol levels and helps prevent constipation. Fiber helps regulate blood-sugar levels in individuals with diabetes, according to the Linus Pauling Institute Micronutrient Information Center. A 2,000-calorie diet should include at least 28 grams of fiber per day, but the average American consumes only 12 to 18 grams of fiber per day. Kala chana and other types of beans, lentils, fruits, vegetables and whole grains are good sources of fiber.

Potassium and Sodium

Each cup of kala chana provides 477 milligrams of potassium, or 14 percent of the daily value, and only 11 milligrams of sodium, or less than 1 percent of the daily value. Sodium causes your body to retain water and increases your blood pressure, while potassium helps reduce the effects of sodium, according to MayoClinic.com. A high-potassium, low-sodium diet helps prevent high blood pressure and an increased risk of stroke and kidney disease. A cup of kala chana boiled in salt water contains 399 milligrams of sodium.

Iron, Calcium and Folate

A cup of boiled kala chana provides 4.7 milligrams of iron, or 28 percent of the daily value. Iron is a component of hemoglobin, which is the oxygen-carrying component of your red blood cells. Iron deficiency causes anemia. Each cup of boiled kala chana provides 80 milligrams of calcium, or 8 percent of the daily value for this bone-strengthening mineral. Pregnant women need to have adequate stores of folate for preventing neural tube birth defects, and a cup of boiled kala chana supplies 282 micrograms of folate, or 71 percent of the daily value.

Kala Chana Uses

You can add canned or boiled kala chana to salads to increase the protein and fiber content.  You can limit the sodium in kala chana recipes by adding less salt for seasoning during cooking and at the table and by using low-sodium canned kala chana instead of salted canned beans.

How 250 Grams of CAROM SEEDS (AJWAIN) SHOOED AWAY BED BUGS

It was during my visit to  Mawana town of Meerut district  in the  Uttar Pradesh state of India . I was to stay there for two months . During my stay there , on the very first night ,I found my bed infested with bed bugs . It was a horrible site to see an army of bed bugs moving in two-three rows . I kept waking up the whole night with electric bulbs switched on and waiting for the dawn . It was a chance during  my quest for  natural remedies in early twenties of my life, I had read about the use of Carom seeds (Ajwain) in shooing away bed bugs . I asked the room attendant to  bring 250 gms (28.35 gms= 1 ounce)  of Carom seeds(Ajwain) from a grocery shop and arrange a piece of old cloth. I tied the  cloth  filled with Carom Seeds (Ajwain) to all the four corners of my bed . To my astonishment , I  had sound sleep  without a single bite from bed bugs . Many people in the guest house visited  the room to  see my bed and were shell shocked to see me having full control over BED BUGS . Later , I realized , was it ragging or something else ????? .it remained a mystery . But  , I scored a victory over BED BUGS with 250 gms of Carom seeds (Ajwain) . Thanx to the  gift of nature ......CAROM SEEDS (Ajwain)!!!!!

WONDERS OF EATING METHI (fenugreek)

The seeds and leaves of methi (fenugreek) are readily available and widely used in Indian kitchen. They have a strong aroma and a bitter taste. But when used in small quantities they impart flavour to your food. It is commonly used in curries, vegetable dishes, dals and not to forget the mouth-watering methi paratha. But did you know thatmethi is a rich reservoir of medicinal properties too? Methi contains protein, fibre, vitamin C, niacin, potassium, iron and alkaloids. It also contains a compound diosgenin which has oestrogen-like properties, as well as steroidal saponins. These compounds impart many benefits to methi – from being your beauty product to being an answer to your health problems!
Here are 15 health benefits of methi (fenugreek):
Increase breast milk production
Fenugreek ranks high among the ‘must haves’ for nursing mothers. This is due to the

presence of diosgenin in the spice which increases milk production in lactating mothers.
Induce and ease child birth
Fenugreek has been known to be helpful in inducing childbirth by stimulating uterine contractions. It is also known to reduce labour pain. But here’s a word of caution. Excess intake of fenugreek seeds during pregnancy could put you in risk of miscarriage or premature childbirth.
Ease women’s health problems
Fenugreek contains compounds like diosgenin and isoflavones with oestrogen-like properties which help reduce symptoms like discomfort and menstrual cramps associated with PMS. These compounds also ease menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and mood fluctuations. Women are more prone to iron deficiency during adolescence (initiation of menstrual periods), during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Including green leafy veggies like fenugreek (methi) in your diet can supply a good amount of iron. But make sure to add tomatoes or potatoes to the preparations to enhance the iron absorption.
Reduce cholesterol
According to studies fenugreek helps to reduce cholesterol level, especially that of the low density lipoprotein (LDL).
Reduce cardiovascular risk
Fenugreek seed has cardiovascular benefits due to the presence of galactomannan. It lowers the risk of heart attack. It is also an excellent source of potassium which counters the action of sodium to help control heart rate and blood pressure.
Control diabetes
Fenugreek is beneficial for people with diabetes.  Galactomannan, a natural soluble fibre present in fenugreek slows down the rate of sugar absorption into blood. Fenugreek also contains amino acid responsible for inducing the production of insulin.
Aid digestion
Fenugreek helps flush out harmful toxins. It relieves indigestion and helps treat constipation.
Cure acid reflux or heartburn
One teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in your food can be an effective remedy for acid reflux or heartburn. Mucilage of fenugreek seeds coat the lining of the stomach and intestine and sooth irritated gastrointestinal tissues. Before consuming, you can soak the methiseeds in water to make their outer coat mucilaginous.
Remedy for fever and sore throat
Fenugreek when taken with a teaspoon of lemon and honey can work wonders to reduce fever by nourishing the body. The soothing effect of mucilage in fenugreek also helps to relieve cough and pain from sore throat.
Prevent colon cancer
The fibre content (saponins, mucilage, etc.) of fenugreek binds to toxins in the food and flush them out. This in turn helps to protect the mucus membrane of the colon from cancers.
Lose weight by suppressing appetite
Include fenugreek in your weight loss diet by chewing soaked methiseeds in the morning on an empty stomach. The natural soluble fibre in the fenugreek can swell and fill the stomach thereby suppressing your appetite.
Cure for skin inflammation and scars
Apply a clean cloth soaked in methi seed paste for effective treatment of skin problems like burns, boils, eczema, etc. Fenugreek seeds also help in getting rid of scars.
Beauty product
Fenugreek can be an excellent ingredient for your home-made beauty product. Fenugreek can be used in face packs to help prevent blackheads, pimples, wrinkles, etc. Washing your face with water boiled with fenugreek seeds or applying a paste of fresh fenugreek leaves for twenty minutes on your face can work wonders for your skin.
Solution to hair problems
Using fenugreek as a part of your diet or as a paste to directly apply on your hair makes your hair shiny and black. Massaging your head everyday with boiled fenugreek seeds soaked overnight in coconut oil can be an excellent remedy for thinning of hair and hair fall. What more? Fenugreek is also great to keep the dandruff away.

REPLACE COMMON SALT WITH ROCK SALT FOR BETTER SKIN ,HAIR AND HEALTH

Rock salt is another name for the mineral halite which is commonly known as sodium chloride and has a chemical formula NaCl. It is commonly known as table salt or ‘sendha namak’ in India. It is mostly colorless or white though its color may vary from light blue, dark blue, purple to pink, red, orange, yellow or grey depending upon the amount and type of impurities present in it.
It is formed by the evaporation of salty water from large water bodies such as inland marginal seas, enclosed bays and estuaries in semi-arid regions where it is found in enormous deposits. In the Indian subcontinent, it is found in the Himalayan region where it known as the Himalayan crystal salt.
There is a difference between the rock salt and the common salt that we mostly consume. Sendha namak is the purest form of rock salt that is available in India in small quantities. Thus, it is costlier than commercial salt. Unlike commercial salt which is iodized, rock salt is more granular with large chunky crystals, has less salty taste and is not chemically processed. It can be used as a healthy substitute of common salt as it is rich in minerals and does not pose health problems like high blood pressure, puffiness in the body or eyes.
It is used in making ice creams  as it lowers the freezing point when packed with ice in the ice cream maker, thus making the ice cream colder.  It is mostly used for seasoning and preservation. Apart from consumption, it is stocked in massive bags for the purpose of keeping down ice on the roads in winter.
Rock Salt Benefits
The nutritional value of the rock salt is so high that they have different effects on different parts of the human body. For your convenience we have broken the benefits of rock salt down into the categories of health, skin and hair!

25. You can mix equal parts of your conditioner and rock salt and apply it on your hair. Wash off after 20-30 minutes. This will add volume to your hair.

10 BENEFITS OF HONEY

Bees swallow, digest and regurgitate nectar to make honey; this nectar contains almost 600 compounds. We need our bees, so let’s do everything we can to save them and keep them here on this earth.
Honey is so good we have included it in our list of powerfoods that should be in your kitchen right now.
“My son, eat thou honey, for it is good” — King Solomon – Proverbs: 24:13
Health Benefits:
1. Prevent cancer and heart disease:
Honey contains flavonoids, antioxidants which help reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease.
2. Reduce ulcers and other gastrointestinal disorders.
Recent research shows that honey treatment may help disorders such as ulcers and bacterial gastroenteritis. This may be related to the 3rd benefit…
3. Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-fungal:
“All honey is antibacterial, because the bees add an enzyme that makes hydrogen peroxide,” said Peter Molan, director of the Honey Research Unit at the University of Waikato in New Zealand.
4. Increase athletic performance.
Ancient Olympic athletes would eat honey and dried figs to enhance their performance. This has now been verified with modern studies, showing that it is superior in maintaining glycogen levels and improving recovery time than other sweeteners.
5. Reduce cough and throat irritation:
Honey helps with coughs, particularly buckwheat honey. In a study of 110 children, a single dose of buckwheat honey was just as effective as a single dose of dextromethorphan in relieving nocturnal cough and allowing proper sleep.
6. Balance the 5 elements:
Honey has been used in ayurvedic medicine in India for at least 4000 years and is considered to affect all three of the body’s primitive material imbalances positively. It is also said to be useful useful in improving eyesight, weight loss, curing impotence and premature ejaculation, urinary tract disorders, bronchial asthma, diarrhea, and nausea.Honey is referred as “Yogavahi” since it has a quality of penetrating the deepest tissues of the body. When honey is used with other herbal preparations, it enhances the medicinal qualities of those preparations and also helps them to reach the deeper tissues.
7. Blood sugar regulation:Even though honey contains simple sugars, it is NOT the same as white sugar or artificial sweeteners. Its exact combination of fructose and glucose actually helps the body regulate blood sugar levels. Some honeys have a low hypoglycemic index, so they don’t jolt your blood sugar. (Watch this video Sweetener Comparison where I compare stevia, brown rice syrup, honey, molasses and agave, and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each.)
8. Heal wounds and burns:
External application of honey has been shown to be as effective as conventional treatment with silver sulfadiazene. It is speculated that the drying effect of the simple sugars and honey’s anti-bacterial nature combine to create this effect.
9. Probiotic:
Some varieties of honey possess large amounts of friendly bacteria. This includes up to 6 species of lactobacilli and 4 species of bifidobacteria. This may explain many of the “mysterious therapeutic properties of honey.”

10. Beautiful skin:Its anti-bacterial qualities are particularly useful for the skin, and, when used with the other ingredients, can also be moisturizing and nourishing! For a powerful home beauty treatment for which you probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen already, read Carrot Face Mask.
